Trained Monkey

I just saw some noob on the news while I was walking through the lounge and it made me angry. Keep in mind I only saw like 5 seconds of this, so I know pretty much nothing about anything.

Anyway, some guy was fundraising to raise awareness about the dangers of train tracks or something stupid. He was real over the top about it, like "Oh my god! This is one of the biggest issues to ever hit the youth of today!". I don't know why he was doing it... Whether one of his kids died in a train accident or something - who knows - but whatever reason, it's crap. What a waste of time and resources. I mean, honestly, how many people die by getting hit by trains each year? Like 5? Let alone kids... And then the news appeared to be putting a positive spin on it like he's some hero or something. Like "Far out! This guys trying to save FIVE people from dying annually! And he's using the time and money of other people to do it! What a legend." Sif you could even save those 5 people. Pretty much anyone who dies by getting hit by a train is an idiot. I don't understand why he wouldn't raise money for something that actually matters, and is actually killing people for avoidable reasons, like HIV or something. Honestly, what a nubcake.

For some reason spell check didn't have a problem with nubcake being a word? Wow. 1337 speak is becoming mainstream!

Anywho. Rant over. Go get some cigarettes as a celebration.

his sister was killed by a cement truck driving into the train she was a passenger on

I still think it's a waste of time and money. He just needs to get over her death. Doing what he's doing now isn't gonna bring her back, and it's probably not gonna save any other lives. Sometimes just grieving is the best thing, rather than trying to be noble and just looking like a noob.

just answering ur question, u dont need to get defensive

The above is me elaborating on why I think he's an idiot.

This is defensive:
"Omg wtf! How can you agree with that? What the hell is wrong with you? Blah blah blah I'm angry. I can't handle it when people don't share my opinion."
Actually that's not really defensive. That's just silly.

Good day.

thousands of people die every year getting hit by trains..

In New Zealand? The road toll is like 400 each year (http://www.transport.govt.nz/road-toll1/), so you're telling me that more than twice as many people get hit by trains than cars? That's just ridiculous.

And considering I can't even find a death toll for getting hit by trains I would say it would be less than 50, maybe even less than 10.

Rowen i think you're kinda angry.. I don't mean anything really but this post shows that you were unhappy while writting it.. I've read most of your posts and you're not this kind of person really.. I mean give the guy a brake! I bet if one of your sisters died you would go "coucou" (as in CrAzY just like you wrote in the post before) Your writing is not like this, I mean you're bigger than this.. so try to figure out what's bothering you and get it out of your system.. i hope you'll reply to my comment :)

Well I was angry actually. It just annoys me that he would use the time and money of OTHERS to voice something so pointless. There's nothing noble about doing that. He could be promoting much more important things (ie anything to do with aid in Africa).
And he may not realise it but he's using the grief and/or empathy of the people around him to get them to pay into something they probably wouldn't pay into normally.
I mean, think about it: Would he really be campaigning for something like this if it weren't for his daughter's death? In other words, is he concerned with it because it's an issue, or purely because his daughter died of it?
I'm not saying death shouldn't motivate people to make changes. Just that you shouldn't ditch reason and logic just because you're upset or trying to 'avenge' a dead loved one. Avenge them cleverly if you're going to avenge them at all.

But you've motivated me to write a new blog on death now. So well done. 100 points!

Also, do I know you personally? Or did you just stumble across my blog randomly (or maybe it was fate?)?

look rowan maybe you're right maybe he is not contributing anything to society... But we can't blame him on anything.. I mean look when you lose a loved one like a daughter, that motivates you to live your life and mostly help others live too! I mean the pain would be so unimaginable you wouldn't wish it on anybody, not even your worst enemy! this man probably thinks this is the best way to help, maybe he doesn't know better he probably didn't get the same education as we did! but i bet if you lost someone like a daughter for something as stupid as getting hit by a bus you'd get a crazier idea to try and make things better... i don't think the man means any harm he's just trying to make sure that you and every other person doesn't get hurt either by getting hit by a train or losing a loved one (who got hit by a train). maybe he can do better things but probably he doesn't know any better so let's give the guy a brake! i don't love him for doing what he's doing but i don't hate him either see? and i don't think he's trying to avenge his daughter's death..like i said... he's just trying to help..after all he can't be that stupid i mean a revenge like this isn't gonna bring his baby back... anyway that's what i think :)

WoWwWwW 100 points! I didn't expect that! thanks! you just motivated me to write more comments and read more posts (although even if i didn't get any points i'd still read and write)

unfortunatly no, you don't know me personnaly. actually you don't know me at all... my luck...but trust me it's fate alright.. hehe.. I love what you do keep doing it..

"i don't love him for doing what he's doing but i don't hate him either see?"

Not saying I hate him. I just don't agree with him. Two very different things.

I think we should agree to disagree here. I just think he's trying to make something good out of death (and failing lol) when he should just be trying to move on.
You're taking the more accepting approach obviously, which is no less right, just different :)

Rowan,
The 'man' you are referring to is Chris Cairns (the cricketer). I don't like that he is getting extra publicity for his cause just because he is a sportsman when there are people who are more deserving of publicity for their good work but get none.

You have a point - there are better causes for fundraising but rail saftey is an issue in NZ (authough alot of rail deaths are suicides so rail saftey initiativs will do nothing for those and mental heath would be better to fundraise for.) If we critised all of the do-gooders because they could spend their time and money more efficiently in Africa then we would have no people trying to save others and/or make this place better for others (who would do good if they got criticised for it). If someone has their own obscure cause I don't have a problem with that as long as its doing no harm.
